Research and Reporting Manager
Emma joined Headland Archaeology in November 2013 as a Project Officer, having worked in commercial archaeology in London and the south-east for the previous three years, and went on to become a Project Manager managing some of Headland’s largest infrastructure projects. She is now Headland’s Research and Reporting Manager, leading a relatively new department within the post-excavation department. Her role involves the management of the workload and career development of post-excavation officers and managers; co-ordination with the wider company over scheduling reporting projects; management of the department’s budgets and KPIs; the creation and implementation of systems to improve post-excavation processes and quality; provision of training and mentoring; tendering; and liaison with clients, curators, specialists, and other stakeholders over post-excavation projects.
Emma has particular experience in managing large-scale infrastructure projects, both in the field and in post-excavation, including the A14 in Cambridgeshire, the Southampton to London pipeline, and the A12 road scheme. She has recently been the ‘stratigraphic and writing lead’ for the analysis and publication phase of the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon excavations. Her role in this involved defining the methodology for the stratigraphic analysis, co-ordinating and supporting the cross-company team of authors, quality control checks, and defining the scope of the two main publications and providing guidance to the authors in this. Emma has a strong research background in Saxon archaeology and undertook of the analysis of one of the largest A14 sites (late Iron Age settlement, two Saxon settlements, and a medieval village) before going on to author the Saxon chapters for the two main monographs.
