Post-Excavation

The Archives Team is responsible for compiling and preserving the records of all archaeological investigations, ensuring they are deposited with the appropriate local repositories as organised and accessible archives.

Site archives are made up of three key components: documentary, material, and digital records. The team ensures that all elements are complete, accurately labelled, properly packed, and organised in line with both repository requirements and industry standards.

Their work also includes the creation of detailed metadata and material catalogues, as well as liaising with external stakeholders to secure Transfers of Title and Treasure Trove arrangements where required.

As archaeological investigation is inherently destructive, the archive becomes the lasting record of the site. The Archives Team plays a vital role in safeguarding this record, ensuring it is preserved and accessible for future research, education, and public benefit.
