Julie joined Headland Archaeology in 2007 as a Finds Assistant on a CIfA bursary scheme, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The year-long scheme allowed her to acquire specialist skills and knowledge from leading experts in the field at the National Museums Scotland, whilst working in a commercial environment.
She is now an accomplished finds specialist with several publications to her name. Her field of interest covers all prehistoric finds from Britain and Ireland with particular expertise in pottery and lithics. She works principally on Headland’s own finds assemblages but also takes on external contracts from other excavators.
She works closely with Headland field staff to ensure finds are recorded, handled, processed and packaged correctly. She manages Headland’s finds and sample processing operations and she helps co-ordinate post-excavation work.
