Crozier illustration: Whithorn
The Whithorn crozier is a late 12th century Bishop’s crozier from Whithorn Priory, found in one of several rich graves excavated by Roy Ritchie in the 1950s. Headland have collaborated with Historic Scotland in bringing these important finds to full publication for the first time. The challenge in illustrating the crozier was to represent in two-dimensional form a curved three-dimensional object. By using a combination of a turntable, high quality digital photographs, and careful measurements, a reliable and highly detailed ‘net’ drawing of the crozier was produced.
