Whithorn Priory - Bishop's graves
Headland undertook a project for Historic Scotland to publish excavations from the 1950’s and 60’s at Whithorn Priory. The excavations revealed a series of wealthy medieval graves, including those of several Bishops of Galloway. The grave goods included an elaborate enamelled crozier, gold and silver finger rings and chalices and a spangled mitre. The piecing together of the finds from each grave has helped to establish not only the manner and dating of their burial, but also in some cases, the identities of the interred individuals.
