A1/A4 Road Improvements, Northern Ireland - Bronze Age weapons

Headland undertook a series of excavations in advance of road improvements to the A4/A1 in Northern Ireland.  The excavations revealed several prehistoric sites.  Flint tools were amongst the most common artefacts found, including these arrowheads.  The kite and leaf-shaped arrowheads (on the left) are Neolithic.  The large barbed and tanged arrowhead and the hollow-based arrowhead (on the right) are Bronze Age.  These tools, along with the waste material found on site, are helping paint a vivid picture of lithic technology in Northern Ireland - these arrowheads would have been effective weapons for hunting and warfare alike.
