Irish Battlefields

Irish Battlefields Project

The Irish Battlefields Project was a government initiative (DEHLG) to map the location of Ireland’s main battlefields. Headland worked in partnership with Eneclann historical consultants to produce a report for each of the locatable battlefields in Ireland, covering over a thousand years of history from the 8th century to 1798. Headland was responsible for interpreting the written evidence and locating events on the ground.  The conflict sites explored thus far include sites associated with the Anglo-Norman invasion, the Bruce invasion, the Tudor reconquest, the Eleven Years War and The Williamite War.
