MILITARY PROJECTS – BATTLEFIELDS, MILITARY DEFENCES, AIRFIELDS

While some military features, such as castles, are well-known features in the landscape others are easily overlooked. Many 19th century structures, for example, are in a dilapidated state requiring specialist knowledge to provide a perspective.

Battles were events of major historic importance yet even some of the most significant are poorly located and leave few visible traces in the landscape.
Owners with military structures on their land require an informed approach when considering their interpretation and management. Such sites need a combination of detailed documentary research and a practiced eye in the field to define and prioritise areas of sensitivity and significance.

Headland has strong in-house capability in the area of military history having undertaken numerous field surveys in the UK and a National Battlefield Inventory in Ireland.
