The Union Canal at Leamington Wharf, Fountainbridge, Edinburgh
Excavations in advance of development located towards the Edinburgh terminus of the Union Canal revealed the remains of historic quay structures and the rare discovery of a 19th century wooden vessel. The remains, proved to be very well preserved and provided a hitherto rare insight into boatbuilding and the operation of canal craft in Scottish contexts. The post-excavation programme commissioned by the client culminated in publication of the results and the production of digital and traditional scale models of the vessel.
