Temple Mains, East Lothian
Historic Building Surveys of farm steadings are regularly undertaken by Headland in advance of conversion. This example at Temple Mains, Innerwick, is typical. The early farmstead was called Westhall in the late 18th century and consisted of a farmhouse and two parallel ranges. These buildings were characteristically vernacular; using local materials such as roughly dressed sandstone and hand-made pantiles. Traits such as the sloping eaves and stepped ridge, the original fenestration, the dressed sandstone margins and the louvred box vents add greatly to their character.
The survey utilized a combination of EDM survey with rectified photography to provide a cost effective and high-quality record.
