The radar station, Dirleton, East Lothian

The radar station at Dirleton is one of a handful of Ground Control Radar complexes that have survived down to the present day. Its origins lie in the use of mobile control and aerial trailers in the early 1940s, but because of the continued incursion of night raiders the more sophisticated station was developed. Equipment was required to direct friendly fighter aircraft to the enemy in the hours of darkness.

The buildings have now been developed as a private home, a process that was facilitated by Headland’s detailed survey and subsequent publication.
