Surveying at Clyde wind farm

Clyde wind farm, South Lanarkshire

The Clyde wind farm is the largest in Scotland. It covers an upland area that was never densely populated in the past but with 210 turbines and over 20 miles of tracks it was likely that development would encounter archaeological sites. The project has always been sensitive and was the subject of an Environmental Impact Assessment followed by a Public Inquiry where Headland presented evidence on behalf of the client.

An important part of our remit on this project was to help Airtricity avoid known archaeological sites as a part of the design changes inherent in the Impact Assessment and to avoid hitherto unknown sites during construction.

Our project design tailored the archaeological response to a predictive landscape model. We have a permanent presence on site with an Archaeological Clerk of Works and with teams on hand to deal with archaeological issues as they arise.
