Water pipe replacement: North Berwick, East Lothian

Headland were commissioned by Scottish Water to monitor all ground disturbances within the medieval core of North Berwick during the replacement of water pipes. Our remit in these circumstances was to provide a rapid and flexible on-site response that enabled the developer to complete ground works with as little hindrance as possible.

Medieval midden deposits and other structures were encountered in a number of places but, most importantly Headland’s work provided a rare snapshot of the survival of archaeological sediments across the medieval burgh.
