A4/5 Dungannon to Ballygawley

Roads: A1 Beech Hill to Clohogue & A 4/5 Dungannon to Ballygawley Northern Ireland

Evaluation prior to road construction had not been tried before in the province and a testing programme of eight weeks fieldwork and four weeks reporting was set for May 2006. Following rapid decisions from Environment and Heritage Service and Roads Service, twelve set-piece excavations and eight ‘strip, map and record’ exercises were undertaken and finished as road construction began in late 2007.

Headland Archaeology deployed up to 50 staff to ensure that the available land take for the road was dealt with in a timely fashion. Staff from both the UK and Irish companies, are currently working on the production of the final publication that will be presented at the road launch in January 2011.
